A former Trumansburg Police Officer is behind bars following a manhunt that ended in the Town of Spencer in Tioga County.

Andrew Jacobson was being placed into custody September 26 for allegedly trying to steal thousands of dollars worth of jewelry from a home when he reportedly shoved an officer and fled as authorities were attempting to place him in handcuffs.

Authorities in Trumansburg say Jacobson was on the police force for two years before being fired on suspicion of drug use and had continued down a path of crime.

It’s not clear what police agency located Jacobson in Tioga County, taking him into custody and returning him to Tompkins County.

The investigation continues as officials say they believe Jacobson had gotten help from several people in fleeing Tompkins County.
