The America East Conference released their women's basketball coaches preseason basketball poll yesterday.  All head coaches voted with the only stipulation being that coaches could not vote for their own teams.  In that poll the coaches projected the Binghamton Bearcats to finish in fifth place.  Binghamton received 34 votes.

The Maine Black Bears were picked to win the conference regular season championship.  Maine garnered 64 total points with a unanimous eight first place votes.  The Black Bears won their first America East Championship since 2004.

Hartford and Stony Brook finished in a tie for second place with 53 points.  They were followed by the Albany Great Danes with 39 votes.  Binghamton picked up 34 votes for fifth place.

Rounding out the voting...New Hampshire is selected as the seventh-place finisher followed by UMBC and UMass Lowell.  The Bearcats finished the 2017-18 campaign with a 20-12 record.  That was the best winning record of any Binghamton women's basketball team since the school moved to Division I competition.

The Bearcats are under the leadership of new coach Bethann Shapiro Ord.  BU plays an exhibition game against Bloomsburg State University at the Events Center on Tuesday, October 30th at 7:00 P.M.  The regular season begins on Tuesday, November 6th at 5:30 P.M. with a home game against the University of Charleston.

The America East Preseason Women's All-Conference Team was also announced.  Binghamton point guard Kai Moon earned first team honors.  The junior point guard is joined on the squad by:

Guard Blanca Millan, Jr. guard from Maine

Shania Johnson, Sr. guard from Stony Brook

Hanna Crymble, Jr. Forward from Vermont

Tanesha Sutton, Sr. guard from Maine

and Lindsey Abed, Sr. Guard from Hartford.
