Albany Outburst Proves Too Much for BU Men
The Binghamton Bearcats men's basketball team spotted the Albany Great Danes 19 points out of the gate last (Saturday) night at the SEFCU Arena and could never quite catch up as Albany won 64-50 in a battle of long-time SUNYAC rivals. Before a jam-packed Purple Growl (winter homecoming) crowd the Great Danes couldn't miss in the early going and jumped out to a 19-0 lead before Caleb Stewart got Binghamton's first points on the board with 11:13 remaining in the first half.
That bucket broke the ice and Binghamton outscored the Great Danes 25-12 in the second half of the first 20 minutes and trailed 31-25 at halftime. Binghamton had pulled to within a 26-23 deficit at one point before the end of the half.
One Great Dane the Bearcats could not stop was Red-Shirt freshman Cameron Healy from Sydney, Australia. The 6-3 guard hit for 31 points and went nine-15 from three-point range. Healy struck from all over the court and ended up making 11 of 19 shots from the field. Seemingly every time the Bearcats put on a run Healy was there with the dagger.
Binghamton was led by Sam Sessoms with 13 points. J.C. Show scored 10 points as did Calistus Anyichie. Anyichie played a solid game in his most playing time of the season. The 6-9 freshman made four out of six shot attempts and grabbed seven rebounds in 29 minutes of action. For much of the time on the court he was Binghamton's best player.
The Bearcats return home to host Stony Brook on Wednesday evening at 7:00 P.M. Airtime is 6:45 on News Radio 1290 WNBF.
