A Central New York child is recovering from injuries suffered in the crash of a Utility Terrain Vehicle, also known as a Side-by-Side.

New York State Police at Homer were called to a field in Cortlandville in the afternoon of October 24 with a report of a crash of an off- road motorized vehicle.

Troopers responding on the scene say they discovered two people were in the side-by-side at around 1:59 p.m. in an area of Hobart Hill Road when it tipped over.

Apparently, the vehicle holding a ten-year-old child and an unidentified second individual had been traveling up a steep, graded hill when the side-by-side rolled over.

Troopers say the child’s leg was pinned under the vehicle.  Several people worked to lift the vehicle off the boy and he was taken to a clearing in the landscape where a medical helicopter was able to access the scene.

The child was airlifted to Upstate University Medical Center in Syracuse for treatment.

No information is available concerning the boy or the name or age of the second person in the UTV.  Troopers have not provided information concerning the person who was operating the vehicle at the time of the rollover crash but did say in a news release that the ten-year-old was a passenger on the four-wheeler vehicle.

There is no information on the make of the UTV but popular off-road vehicles of that description are made by Polaris and Yamaha.

The New York State Police Officers were joined at the scene by the Cortlandville Fire Department and a crew from the TLC Ambulance Squad.

The investigation is continuing.
