Bob Joseph/WNBF News [file][/caption]Work on a $500,000 trail upgrade at Broome County's Otsiningo Park in the town of Dickinson is scheduled to start in about four months.

A walking path that starts at the park's Bevier Street entrance and runs along the Chenango River is to be widened from eight feet to twelve feet.

Walkers, skateboarders and bicyclists will be able to use the wider trail.

About 80 percent of the project's cost is expected to be covered by funding provided by the Federal Highway Administration.

The trail location and alignment will generally follow the existing walking path, although drainage issues will be addressed as part of the planned project.

County officials say construction is to begin in early August. The trail will be closed for about three months while the project is in progress.

Otsiningo is the busiest facility in the Broome County park system.
