Raymond Corporation Buys Two Kirkwood Buildings for Expansion

A major Southern Tier manufacturing firm is expanding operations in Broome County with the acquisition of a pair of properties in the town of Kirkwood.

Raymond Corporation of Greene has announced it has purchased two buildings to provide more space for warehousing and light manufacturing operations. The company makes forklifts and other material handling equipment.

According to Broome County property records, Raymond acquired the buildings at 191 and 196 Corporate Drive for $9.8 million on April 1.

The properties had been owned by Rogers Service Group of Binghamton. They previously had been used by Felchar Manufacturing.

Raymond Corporation signs have been erected at the entrances to both buildings. Rogers Service Group employees were still at both sites on Tuesday afternoon.

A spokesperson for Raymond said the company is finalizing plans for the Kirkwood buildings. Renovation work will be needed to accommodate Raymond's needs.

The company eventually will hire people for the Broome County sites, although it's not known when that will get underway. Raymond's website now lists many available positions at its headquarters in Greene and at several other states.

It's not known how many people eventually may work at the Kirkwood buildings.

About 2,900 people currently work for Raymond Corporation. Raymond was acquired by Toyota Industries Corporation in 2000.
