More academic honors for Binghamton University student athletes were announced this week.  Binghamton University's softball team has earned Team Academic Honors from the National Fastpitch Coaches' Association...the NFCA.  This comes on the heals of an earlier announcement that academic honors were awarded to the men's soccer team as well.

According to information supplied by Binghamton University's Sports Information Department the Bearcats are one of 99 NCAA Division I softball programs out of 295 in the nation who have earned this honor for the 2015-16 academic year.

The Bearcats had a team Grade Point Average of 3.395 which is 45th overall in the nation.  Eight Bearcat softball players from last season's squad were named NFCA Scholar-Athletes.  Each of those eight had a 3.50 GPA or higher.

Gabby Bracchi, Crysti Eichner, Lisa Cadogan and Griffin McIver earned the honors for the second season.  Jilllian Bovitt, Cara Martin, Sarah Miller and Allison Pritchard  received honors for the first time.

The Bearcats won the America East regular-season championship and finished the year with a 34-15 record.  Softball Coach Michelle Burrell, an Owego High School graduate led her team to the top-seed in the America East Tournament.
