Authorities said one firefighter was reported hurt as several departments battled a fast-moving brush fire in northern Broome County.

The blaze near 203 Caldwell Hill Road in Glen Aubrey was reported at 10:11 a.m. Monday (March 7).

Nine fire departments responded to the call or were placed on stand-by.

Broome County senior fire investigator Jeffrey Winchell said the wind-whipped fire covered about ten acres. He said it damaged a barn and a shed.

The fire was declared under control in less than a half-hour.

Winchell said a Glen Aubrey firefighter fell and may have sustained broken ribs. He was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Winchell said the brush fire was the result of debris that was being burned by a neighbor. The man, who had been burning a door and some furniture, left the fire unattended. Winchell said he was ticketed for unlawful burning.
