A 23-year-old man sustained serious injuries when the sport utility vehicle he was driving struck a utility pole and rolled over in Bradford County.

Authorities say Ryan Rockwell of Athens lost control of the SUV on State Route 1043 in Sheshequin township around 11:40 p.m. Monday.

According to Pennsylvania State Police, the vehicle slammed into a pole and then slid 40 feet before coming to a stop in the roadway.

Investigators say Rockwell was ejected through the windshield of the SUV. A 20-year-old woman who was riding in the vehicle was not hurt.

Police say Rockwell was issued a citation for speeding. Rockwell and the passenger were cited for not wearing seat belts.
