Whitney Point Mom, Son Arrested in Stolen Vehicle Saga

A Broome County woman and her son have been charged with resisting arrest after they allegedly tried to flee sheriff's deputies in a sport utility vehicle that had been reported stolen.

Authorities say 50-year-old MaryJo Gana and 25-year-old Luke Gana were arrested following Thursday night's incident.

According to the Broome County Sheriff's Office, deputies were sent to 4116 Route 26 to investigate a "suspicious incident."

Deputies located a Jeep Cherokee that had been reported stolen from Forest City, Pennsylvania.

Investigators say MaryJo Gana tried to flee in the vehicle as deputies approached. They say after driving a short distance, Gana stopped to allow her son to get into the Jeep.

When deputies caught up to the vehicle, the woman allegedly resisted arrest. Her son is accused of preventing deputies from arresting his mother. Both were taken into custody after a brief struggle.

In addition to resisting arrest, both were charged with obstructing governmental administration.

MaryJo Gana also was charged with felony possession of stolen property. She faces a count of criminal possession of a controlled substance after deputies discovered she had some methamphetamine. She was wanted on a Pennsylvania warrant for robbery of a motor vehicle.
