Broome Rape Case Leads to Dozens of Felony Weapon Charges
A Broome County man arrested for allegedly raping a girl now faces 44 felony weapon charges.
Authorities say the weapon-related counts followed the execution of a search warrant at the suspect's home. The search resulted in the confiscation of seven illegal firearms and dozens of ammunition magazines, in addition to evidence related to the rape investigation.
The man was arrested after a girl reported a sexual assault that she said occurred in the town of Nanticoke.
According to the girl, she had been staying at a friend's house when the friend's father gave her alcohol and marijuana before raping her in a bedroom of the residence.
Investigators on Monday announced 36-year-old Kurt Compton of Lisle has been charged with two counts of first-degree rape. He also was charged with endangering the welfare of a child and unlawfully dealing with a child.
In addition to the counts linked to the alleged sexual assault, Compton was charged with seven counts of criminal possession of a weapon. He also was charged with 37 counts of weapon possession related to the illegal ammunition magazines found in his home.
Compton was arraigned and sent to Broome County Jail in the town of Dickinson.
