Residents in the West Windsor area are being assured there is no emergency after many were jolted awake October 2 by a loud popping noise that some feared was an explosion at a gas compressor station on Patterson Road.

Emergency Services Officials and New York State Police say it was only a pressure release valve popping at 3:31 a.m. There was no explosion and no injuries but the incident lit up phone banks at the Broome Emergency Services Central Call Center and the New York State Police Kirkwood barracks.

Both agencies reported getting several calls from concerned neighbors and fire crews were sent to the scene.  There’s been no word on what caused the valve to pop and what actions were expected to be taken by the station’s owner.

According to permitting paperwork filed in the Town of Windsor in 2017, the site is identified as the Dunbar Compressor Station operated by Williams Field Services Co. LLC.
