Broome County Has One Of The Lowest Average Gas Prices In New York State
While it is not anywhere where we would like it to be, many Americans have been happy to see gas prices drop slowly over several weeks recently.
According to the AAA Fuel Prices website, a record 119 million people were forecast to travel over the 2024 holiday season and adds that 107 million of those travelers will go by car. That is a lot of motorists fueling up, including myself.
Locally, I've noticed prices range from as low as $2.85 to upwards of $3.09 and higher. Of course, the price listed on the signs can be misleading when listing the member price versus the lower than non-member price.

As of December 24, the AAA Fuel Prices website lists the average price for regular gasoline in the Binghamton area as $3.10. A month ago, that average price was $3.14, and one year ago, it was $3.47.
Broome County's average is $3.09, which places it as the 8th lowest county for regular gasoline in Upstate New York, just behind Chemung County's $3.08 average. It's interesting to note that just over the west border of Chemung, Steuben County's average is $3.23.
Tioga County's average is $3.13, with Chenango County coming in at $3.17 and Cortland County at $3.21.
AAA Fuel Prices list the current average price of regular gasoline for New York State at $3.13, coming in the top 10 most expensive states for gasoline. The top honor goes to Hawaii at $4.54, followed by California at $4.34. Nationally, the average price is currently $3.04.
The state average for Pennsylvania is $3.22. In Susquehanna County, it is $3.30, and in Bradford County, the regular gas price average is $3.28.
