After a two-year hiatus because of the Covid-19 pandemic, the popular "Halloween parade" is coming back to the Johnson City Wegmans store.

David Orlovsky, the store manager, said "we're excited" that what quickly turned into a tradition at the Broome County Wegmans is returning. He said the store's first Halloween parade was held in 2010.

This year's event at the store on Harry L. Drive will be held on Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m.

Orlovsky said when the Halloween parade was last held in 2019, more than 1,200 kids showed up to trick-or-treat. He said "we're looking forward to a record turnout" this year.

The manager said this is the biggest regular event held at the Johnson City Wegmans store, although breakfast with Santa and the Easter Bunny also attract a lot of people.

Orlovsky said those at the store have been working for the past few months to prepare for the Halloween event. He said this year's theme will be "Alice in Wonderland" and many employees are looking forward to dressing up as various characters.

Representatives of the Johnson City police and fire departments will be on hand at Wegmans to chat with children who are visiting for the Halloween parade.

Orlovsky said although other Wegmans stores hold some Halloween-related events, "we are unique in this" with the Johnson City parade being "by the far the biggest" for the company.
