Bob Joseph/WNBF News [file][/caption]Residents of the 52nd New York State Senate District will go to the polls November 3 to elect a successor to Republican Thomas Libous, who lost his seat after he was convicted of lying to the FBI.

Republican Frederick Akshar is facing Democrat Barbara Fiala in the special election.

Polls are open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.

In Broome County, Democratic district attorney Gerald Mollen is seeking reelection. He's being challenged by Stephen Cornwell, who worked in the district attorney's office for a time.

Democrat Christian Root and Republican Kevin Dooley are running for Broome County judge.

In Binghamton, seven city council seats will be on the ballot.

Several other local posts will be filled throughout Broome County.
