Binghamton is pushing forward with its goal to make sure no veterans are left homeless with the construction of a new housing unit Downtown.

The development on Pine Street will provide housing in ten units as well as services like job training, emotional counseling and addiction recovery.

The project is part of Mayor Richard David’s Blue Ribbon Commission to End Veteran Homelessness.

The Pine Street rehabilitation is costing $408,000 and is a partnership between the City and Opportunities for Broome.  The City is allocating $240,000 for the project through the federal affordable housing entitlement while Opportunities for Broome will manage the site and coordinate services.

The Broome County Veterans Services Agency has provided $89,500 for the facility which is just a block from the new U.S. Department of Affairs health clinic that is due to open on Court Street next year.  Funding is also being provided through the United Way of Broome County.
