An employee of a Vestal store will be heading to prison for setting a fire that ripped through a massive warehouse at the business.

50-year-old Richard Millard of Vestal on Tuesday received a six-year sentence in Broome County Court.

Millard was arrested by town police March 26 in connection with the spectacular blaze at the Home Central store. The February 13 fire destroyed the wood storage facility next to the store's showroom. The retail area sustained extensive damage.

No serious injuries were reported as a result of the fire, which burned for hours.

In August, Millard pleaded guilty to a felony count of second-degree arson.

Home Central store officials say work is underway to rebuild the warehouse and to repair the showroom area. They hope to reopen at the Vestal site by the end of the year.
