Vestal Emergency Squad Preparing to Move Into New Headquarters

The Vestal Volunteer Emergency Squad will soon be operating from its newly-constructed complex near the town's public library.

Construction work on the headquarters building on the Vestal Parkway near the entrance to Route 26 has been completed.

Town engineer Vernon Myers said a few minor details still need attention. He said the squad could begin using the facility early next month.

Vestal's ambulance service has operated in a former community center on Myrtle Street in the Twin Orchards section of the town since 1976.

Planning for the $2 million project to develop the new headquarters complex started several years ago. Construction was initially expected to begin in 2020 but the start of work at the site was held up by various factors.

Myers said construction also was slowed because of delayed deliveries of some materials.

Vestal town supervisor John Schaffer has said the old emergency squad building eventually will be used as a police substation.
