Vestal Community Band Members Keep Sharing Their Love of Music
Dozens of musicians spend a couple of hours on one evening most weeks rehearsing at a Vestal school.
They are members of the Vestal Community Band and they appreciate the opportunity to play together with fellow music lovers. They also enjoy sharing their music with people around the Binghamton area.
The community group was formed in 1987 under the direction of Vestal High School band director Aubrey Byer.
The founders had a vision of performing at area parks, nursing homes and community events. The community band has gathered to rehearse most Thursday nights with the exception of holidays and snow days.
Gail Markstein, the current director, said the band consists of people from "all walks of life" who all "love to make music."
The Vestal Community Band's next concert is scheduled for Thursday, March 14 at 7 p.m. The "Festival of Music" will be presented at the Oakdale Commons in Johnson City in front of the JC Penney store.
The band plans to have several outdoor performances with a Thursday night concert series at Arnold Park in Vestal.
People interested in joining the group may obtain information on the Vestal Community Band Facebook page.
