An abandoned restaurant in Vestal may become the site for Broome County's first Chick-fil-A restaurant.

Representatives of the Georgia-based chain spoke at a Vestal town planning board meeting Tuesday evening, according to News 34.

The new Chick-fil-A would be located in the Town Square Mall on the Vestal Parkway East. The spot  had been occupied by an Uno Pizzeria and Grill for more than two decades. It most recently was home to a Storming Crab restaurant.

Plans call for the demolition of the old restaurant building to clear the site for construction of a new structure for Chick-fil-A.

Drive-thru lanes would route customers around the business. The restaurant also would have seating inside and outside.

If things move forward with no unexpected delays, the Vestal Chick-fil-A could be in operation by next March.

A Chick-fil-A restaurant also is planned for the Oakdale Commons in Johnson City. That site has been under active consideration for years.

Construction of the Johnson City restaurant won't get underway until a Key Bank branch office at the location is closed and then demolished.

The demolition of the old bank building is expected to occur late this year.

Key Bank officials won't say whether they intend to open another Johnson City location after the existing office is shut down.
