Concrete Risers Installed for Union-Endicott Stadium Makeover Job
The reconstruction project of Ty Cobb Stadium at Union-Endicott High School is moving forward, but plenty of work remains to be done over the next month.
Demolition work of the existing bleachers behind the school on East Main Street in Endicott began just after graduation ceremonies were held in the stadium in late June.
Union-Endicott School District director of facilities and safety Toby Riddleberger said "the project remains on track" for completion by October 1.
In an email, Riddleberger said a crane is being used to place the last concrete risers this week. He said the work is "far from complete." He said detail work remains to be done along the entire stadium.
Riddleberger said a smaller crane will be used to install concrete steps. The existing pavement at the stadium will be removed and replaced after the steps have been installed.
Sections of aluminum seating are scheduled to arrive early next month. New railings also will be installed along the back area of the stadium near the school building.
Union-Endicott voters approved funding for the stadium reconstruction work in a 2019 capital project referendum. The work is expected to cost about $1.3 million.
