Even without the fair, which was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic, residents can still look for lost money at the comptroller’s website

Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli says there is currently $16.5 billion in unclaimed money sitting in the State Office of Unclaimed Funds waiting for the rightful owners to show up. 

The state currently returns over $1.5 million a day from things like forgotten bank accounts, utility and rent deposits or refund settlements.
