The Comptroller says while some sellers have eliminated inactivity fee, there may be some charges attached to the gift cards that are not apparent.

DiNapoli says some important information about fees and expiration dates may be found in the fine print on the cards.

He also reminds recipients that in some cases, if some gift cards aren’t used in a timely manner, the money could get turned over to the state’s Office of Unclaimed Funds.
