Binghamton Fire Department personnel tend to the driver of the car involved in the Court Street crash. [Bob Joseph/WNBF News][/caption]Two women were injured when an out-of-control car became airborne, clipped the top of a parked vehicle and destroyed a business office on Court Street in Binghamton.

The spectacular crash occurred at 2:17 p.m. Monday at ScottTech Integrated Solutions at 336 Court Street.

A witness said an eastbound four-door Ford sedan was swerving on Court Street near the Tompkins Street bridge. The vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed when it struck a curb near the Alice Street railroad underpass.

The witness said the car became airborne for nearly 100 feet, striking the roof of a parked white Jeep. The car then slammed into the northwest corner of the building before coming to rest next to some trees along the railroad tracks.

Fire medics first extricated the front-seat passenger from the wrecked vehicle. They then used a hydraulic tool to pry open a door to free the driver.

Assistant fire chief Samuel Santoni said both women were taken to Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City. He said they were conscious when they were removed from the car.

Santoni said the impact of the car hitting the building "destroyed" an office. A man who had been at a desk was evaluated but declined medical treatment.

Santoni said the incident "could have been a lot worse" because there were several people working in the ScottTech office at the time.

The building - which is near a sharp curve at the railroad bridge - has been struck by vehicles in the past.
