Two Charged in Bizarre Burglary Tale in Delaware County
Two people are being charged in connection with two burglaries and a stolen vehicle in the Southern Tier that involved one victim.
New York State Police say 34-year-old Amber Weaver and 33-year-old Christiaan Stewart, both of Bloomville, are accused of burglarizing a home on West Kortright Church Road in the Town of Kortright in Delaware County on the evening of August 11, traveling to another home in the Town of Meredith, burglarizing that place and stealing a vehicle.
Troopers say a person called 911 shortly after 6:30 p.m. after they went to check on an alarm at the Kortright home and came face-to-face with a man inside the house. The complainant said they saw the man leave with a woman who was outside the house.
When the complainant when back to their own home on Elk Creek Road in Meredith, they found their house had been broken into while they were checking on the Kortright property and a vehicle had been stolen.
A State Police Sergeant found the stolen vehicle in the parking lot of the Quality Inn on State Highway 23 in the Town of Oneonta.
Weaver was arrested at the motel while Stewart was found walking through Neahwa Park in Oneonta.
Both are charged with felony burglary for the break-ins as well as grand larceny for the incident in the Town of Meredith. They’re also charged with criminal possession of stolen property. Weaver is additionally charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance.
The couple was sent to the Delaware County Jail on $30,000 bail.
