Fire caused heavy damage to a multiple-family apartment house on the South Side of Johnson City.

The two-alarm blaze at 43 Endicott Avenue was reported at 5 p.m. Thursday.

Johnson City firefighters were assisted by the Binghamton Fire Department and the Union Volunteer Emergency Squad.

Thick black smoke from the fire could be seen for miles.

The fire appeared to be concentrated toward the rear upper section of the two-and-a-half story building. Broome County property records indicate there are three apartments in the structure.

The fire was brought under control after about 30 minutes.

It was not immediately known how many people were inside the house when the fire broke out. No serious injuries were reported.

Fire investigators and code enforcement representatives were called to the scene.
