The National Weather Service in Binghamton has issued a Freeze Warning for the Southern Tier, Central New York and Northern Tier of Pennsylvania from 11 p.m. May 11 to 10 a.m. May 12.

Forecasters are predicting sub-freezing temperatures as low as 25 degrees for the entire region overnight May 11.

Frost and freeze will kill tender plants and crops.

Any sensitive plants, like ornamental baskets, should be brought in or covered to protect them from the cold.

The cold temperatures could be especially bad for fruit trees that have already started to blossom.

After a high temperature around 50 May 12, the mercury is expected to fall to around freezing again Tuesday night and into the mid 30s Wednesday night.

Warmer temperatures are expected to return later in the week along with chances of showers and thunderstorms.
