Tons of Trash Dumped as Tractor-Trailer Overturns in Johnson City
A big rig hauling garbage rolled over as it left Route 17 west of Binghamton, spilling its load on a grassy area next to an exit ramp.
The tractor-trailer operated by Colucci Trucking of Rome had been eastbound on the expressway. It crashed at Exit 71 just after 1:30 p.m. Thursday.
The trailer was filled with several tons of household trash being hauled to a landfill.
The man who had been driving the truck told WNBF News he was not injured but was "a bit sore."
Heavy-duty wreckers were sent to the scene. Traffic was maintained on the exit ramp shortly after the crash occurred. A detour was expected around the scene when crews began working to clean up the mess.
