Authorities are investigating the fatal drowning of a young child in a Town of Union swimming pool.

According to the Broome County Sheriff's Office, a 911 call was received shortly before 4 p.m. Tuesday, July 3 reporting a child in the water.

The incident happened at a home on Boswell Hill Road in West Corners. Initial reports indicated CPR was being performed on the girl before emergency crews arrived on the scene.

In a news release from the Sheriff's office, the 2 year old's father, who was the only other person home at the time, found the girl.

The toddler reportedly was taken to Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City where she was pronounced dead.

According the Broome County Sheriff's Office, the pool was 15 feet wide, by four feet tall, above ground with an A-frame type ladder in place for entering and exiting the pool.

The investigation is continuing into the circumstances surrounding the child's drowning.
