Tioga Man Accused of Fleeing From Troopers

A Tioga County man was arrested after state police say a pickup truck hit a utility pole when he jumped from the moving vehicle trying to elude troopers.

Authorities say 23-year-old Cody Kinnunen of Barton was taken into custody Sunday at his home.

Investigators say Kinnunen was charged with unlawful fleeing from a police officer in a vehicle. He also faces a felony count of being a fugitive from justice and several traffic violations.

Police say troopers tried to stop a pickup truck on Oak Hill Road in the town of Barton Sunday morning.

Troopers say the vehicle accelerated and the driver then jumped from the passenger side door before running off.

The unoccupied truck continued for another 100 feet before smashing into a NYSEG pole.

Police say Kinnunen is wanted in Texas for a felony offense. He was arriagned in Barton town court and sent to Tioga County Jail without bail.

Kinnunen is scheduled to reappear in court on May 5.
