Tioga County Officials Say Recycling Bids Are "Too Costly"

Big changes are being proposed for Tioga County's recycling program even as construction is being completed on a new material handling facility in Apalachin.

Legislative chair Martha Sauerbrey said bids received for recycling services "proved too costly and provide less services." The lowest bid would have more than doubled the cost-per-stop for recycling in the coming year.

Sauerbrey said the recycling process in the county will change in 2021. Weekly curbside recycling pickup, which has been provided in the county for nearly three decades, will be coming to an end.

Saurbrey said some of the details of the new recycling process are being finalized. She said the plan will be outlined at a public hearing next week.

The legislature has scheduled that session for Wednesday at 6:05 p.m. It will be held at the county office building at 56 Main Street in Owego.
