This Week on So. Tier Close Up: Schorr Firehouse Stage Full Slate for October
The director of the Goodwill Theatre/ Schorr Famiily Firehouse Stage in Johnson City, Naima Kradjian is the guest on the weekly, local public affairs program, Southern Tier Close Up this weekend with a preview of the full schedule of performances in October.
Following a year-and-a-half of canceled shows, a move into a big tent in the lot next to the Goodwill Theatre and the old Johnson City Firehouse that is now the Schorr Family Firehouse Stage and offering facilities for video opportunities, the local performing arts venue is back and back BIG!
Kradjian obviously can hardly contain her excitement when she talks about all the shows on the docket, starting with "Portrait of a Queen: The Music of Arethra Franklin" , starring CeCe Teneal that is being performed October 1, prior to the airing of the public affairs program.
The season really leans to the unique with classical and show tunes by the Eroica Duo, a pianist and cellist who have performed together since they were children, Mayhem Poets that provide a mash-up of poetry, hip-hop and social commentary, the ongoing jazz series and a stand-up comic that is story-teller, funny person that is a comic but not so much in the traditional sense... as we said: "unique."
Kradjain is also proud of the role the theater has had during the past year of the pandemic in keep performing arts going in the region, lending facilities to both local and out-of-the area groups to hold performance and film works. The property at the corner of Willow Street and Corliss Avenue in Johnson City will also host the annual Trunk or Treat for children in the community to safely get Halloween treats on the 31st.
