A small turtle was able to avoid several vehicles during a morning adventure in the town of Union.

The relatively small reptile was observed crossing a busy section of Hayes Avenue in Endwell around 8 a.m. Tuesday.

The nameless turtle appeared oblivious to the cars and trucks that were zipping between North Street and Watson Boulevard.

A news reporter driving to work spotted the creature and pulled over to provide some assistance to avert a potential interaction with a vehicle.

Traffic stopped briefly as the turtle was offered gentle encouragement to move from the roadway.

The driver of a construction vehicle who witnessed the situation said "He wants water!"

The turtle successfully arrived in a grassy area near the BAE Systems Power and Propulsion Solutions headquarters at the Huron Campus. It was last seen heading toward Brixius Creek, which is located on the north side of the BAE Systems complex.

A man who works at the facility said more turtles than usual have been seen at the site in recent weeks. He said a colleague had rescued a large turtle from the nearby railroad tracks a few days ago.
