Thefts from Vehicles are Up in Delaware County
Delaware County Sheriff’s officials are investigating a recent spike in thefts from vehicles around the Village of Stamford.
Authorities say in each of the incidents, the vehicle was not locked and loose change as well as larger amounts of cash, electronics and other items were stolen.
The problem of larcenies from vehicles always provides work for police, especially when people fail to lock their cars, but it becomes even more of a problem this time of the year.
As people begin shopping for the holidays, law enforcement officials say people can become forgetful about locking their vehicles. People are also reminded: don’t leave packages or anything valuable in plain sight.
Along the same lines, residents should make sure doors and windows are locked at home and outbuildings secure.
If packages are being delivered, it is best to be home in time for that drop off. If that’s not possible, packages can be left with a trusted neighbor, delivered at work or left for pickup at one of the secure locker locations provided by companies like Amazon and FedEx.
