The trial of a Florida man accused of running down a New York State Trooper in 2014 continues in Broome County Court.

Almond Upton's first degree murder trial in the death of Trooper Christopher Skinner on Interstate 81 is entering its third week.  Thursday, July 21, jurors were shown the 62 year old’s interrogation video where he claimed his name was Jesus Christ and said the devil and Jesus told him to kill Trooper Skinner.

The defense has claimed from the beginning of proceedings that Upton's mental condition is pivotal.

Trooper Skinner was conducting a routine traffic stop on the Interstate between Chenango Bridge and Castle Creek when, investigators claim, Upton accelerated his truck to 93 miles per hour and swerved from the passing lane to intentionally hit Skinner along the side of the road.

Upton fled into a wooded area along side the highway and was located a short time later, naked in a field.
