Binghamton Man Pleads Guilty After Neighborhood Gun Mayhem

Authorities say 19-year-old Savon Turrell of Binghamton admitted that he illegally possessed a loaded 45-caliber pistol on May 3, 2022.
Turrell was 18 when police arrested him following a loud daytime argument in the area of Mygatt and Meadow streets. Neighbors reported as many as eight people were involved in the dispute. Investigators recovered ten shell casings around the scene.
According to the Broome County district attorney's office, Turrell pleaded guilty to criminal possession of a weapon. Under the plea deal, Turrell is to be sentenced to 3½ years is state prison. Sentencing is scheduled for May 19.
Police said a sport utility vehicle that raced away from where the shots were fired was found a short time later in the driveway of an Oak Street residence.
A search of the house turned up handguns, rifles, a shotgun, a ghost gun and ammunition.
In addition to Turrell, police arrested 38-year-old Nayquen McKoy of Binghamton in connection with their investigation into the shootings. He was charged with criminal weapon possession and possession of stolen property. No information was released on the status of his case.
