JC Man Gets Prison for Stabbing and Slashing Child’s Grandfather
Prosecutors said a man has admitted he cut the grandfather of his child with a knife and broken glass during a dispute in Johnson City.
32-year-old David Maiella of Johnson City has been sentenced to four years in state prison after he pleaded guilty to second-degree assault.
Village police said officers say Maiella attacking the older man with a piece of broken glass after they were called to a Pratt Avenue residence on February 27. Police stopped the attack and took Maiella into custody.
Investigators previously said the injured man sustained several stab and slash wounds in the incident. His name was not released.
Police also had said a young child who was in the home at the time of the dispute was injured in a fall. The child and the man who was attacked were taken to Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City for treatment.
Authorities said the grandfather was injured when her intervened in an argument involving Maiella and his child's mother.
Police confiscated a knife and the shard of glass Maiella used to attack the grandfather.
According to the Broome County district attorney's office, Maiella has a prior conviction for criminal possession of a gun in Albany County.
