Broome County Sheriff’s officials say a license plate reader alerted them to a suspect wanted for a murder in Syracuse.

26 year old Hanza Muhammad was arrested October 20 in Broome County and charged with murder for the October 8 shooting death of 22 year old John White.

New York State Police informed the Broome Sheriff’s Office at around 2 p.m. that a vehicle associated with a homicide investigation in Syracuse was detected passing a license plate reader on Interstate 81S near Route 88.

While on patrol, Deputy Thomas Williams spotted the suspect vehicle in the parking lot of a business on Old Front Street in the Town of Dickinson.

Muhammad was alone in the vehicle.

He was arrested without incident and turned over to Investigators from the City of Syracuse Police Department.
