Suspected Drugged Driver Hits Four Vehicles in Vestal
A vehicle driven by a man believed to be under the influence of opioids slammed into three cars and a dump truck on a busy roadway in Vestal.
Authorities say 44-year-old Ronald Seeley of Smithville Flats was arrested after the harrowing series of crashes that sent another driver to the hospital.
According to Vestal police, the first crash on Route 26 was reported at 3:08 p.m. Tuesday.
A southbound Dodge Durango SUV driven by Seeley hit another southbound vehicle, then struck 2 northbound vehicles and collided with another southbound car. The out-of-control SUV veered off the west side of the roadway and plunged down an embankment.
A man who was driving one of the cars was taken to a hospital for treatment of moderate injuries.
Medics administered a dose of the opioid reversal medication to Seeley.
Police say Seeley has been charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs and reckless endangerment. He also was cited for several vehicle and traffic violations.
Route 26 between the Vestal Parkway and Pierce Hill Road was closed for about two hours after the crashes.
