Sunrise Terrace Community Center Building Condemned

An effort is underway to raise money to make repairs needed before a Town of Dickinson community center can reopen.

The Sunrise Terrace Community Center building was condemned by town code enforcement officer Stephen Rafferty in December.

The order was issued because of structural problems related to a settling foundation. Engineers say one of the walls in the building has moved three inches.

According to a letter released by the Sunrise Terrace Association Board, a preliminary estimate indicated repairs could cost $82,000.

Temporary shoring to keep the building from collapsing could cost about $18,000.

Town supervisor Michael Marinaccio said Sunrise Terrace residents are being asked to donate to a capital fund.

Speaking on WNBF Radio's Binghamton Now program, Marinaccio said the town will work with the association to try to find other potential sources of money to help cover the repair cost.

The structure on Terrace Drive was built more than 60 years ago.
