Binghamton Econo Lodge Rebranded as Independent Hotel
The Econo Lodge hotel on Old Front Street just north of Binghamton has a new name.
The town of Dickinson business has been rebranded as Hillside Inn & Suites. It had been affiliated with Econo Lodge by Choice Hotels for a couple of decades.
General manager Rudy Krupitza said the name change occurred about two weeks ago. Temporary signs featuring the new name are covering the Econo Lodge logo.
Krupitza said the hotel, which is located near Interstate 81's Front Street exit, has 104 rooms.
The manager said the place usually has a high occupancy rate. Many of the rooms are occupied by unhoused individuals and their families. The hotel is reimbursed for the use of those rooms by Broome County.
Krupitza said steps have been taken to make the hotel more "family-friendly" because of the high number of children who reside there temporarily. He said people who cause problems at the hotel must leave.
One man who has been living at the hotel for the last several weeks said he liked the place. But, he said, now that he has landed a new job with an Endicott company, he is looking forward to finding an apartment.
