The George F. Johnson Memorial Library in Endicott is getting some help from New York State in improving safety in the building.

Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo says $9,700 is going to the library to add two new emergency exits at the building on Park Street.

One exit door is going in the Children's Room with another in the basement Book Sale Room

The funding is part of a $19 million capital appropriation in this year's state budget for construction and renovation of public libraries.

The George F. Johnson Library opened in 1951 at the former home of the head of the Endicott Johnson Shoe Corporation.
