The Binghamton Republican is joined by Broome County Executive Jason Garnar, Tioga County Legislative Chair Martha Sauerbry, Broome Legislative Chairman Daniel Reynolds and Binghamton Mayor Richard David in calling for the governor to address the issue or consider giving localities the power to shut down buses, hospitality bookings and limit travel in their counties.

In the letter, Akshar says: “to be clear, we’re not talking about those in hospitals, their families or health care and EMS personnel. We are speaking specifically to those who simply want a “safe” area to ride out this pandemic.”

The group says they are not suggesting shutting down traffic or walling off New York City but to reiterate the message to stay at home.

The letter concludes: “The message must be clear: no one from any part of the state should be engaging in non-essential travel right now.”
