Signal Repair Work Closes Downtown Binghamton Intersection

Sections of two busy streets in downtown Binghamton were shut down while crews replaced underground wiring for traffic signals.

Rush-hour traffic was detoured around the intersection of State and Henry streets Monday.

The closure affected the area around the Binghamton Federal Building and the State Street parking garage.

The traffic signal at the intersection was not operating normally on Friday. A vehicle crash occurred when it was in "flashing" mode. No injuries were reported.

Deputy mayor Jared Kraham said traffic light wiring upgrades are being performed by Binghamton Road Electric.

Kraham said the cost of the work is estimated to be $5,000.
