Shots Reportedly Fired, Guns Taken in Dickinson Home Robbery

Several gunshots are said to have been fired and dozens of weapons may have been stolen in a home invasion in the town of Dickinson.

New York State Police have released little information about last weekend's incident that happened about five blocks from where 12-year-old Aliza Spencer was fatally shot last April.

Investigators have said troopers were dispatched to a Bevier Street resident around 2 a.m. Sunday "for a report of two males that broke into an occupied home."

Police said the intruders "fled the area and were located at residence in the city of Binghamton and subsequently arrested." Two teenagers have been charged with several felony counts, including burglary, robbery, weapon possession and reckless endangerment.

A person familiar with the matter said a man and woman were inside the home when the intrusion occurred. The person said five shots were fired in the incident but no one was hurt.

The robbers are said to left the residence with a large number of guns in a duffel bag. A four-wheeler type vehicle apparently was used to flee the scene. It is said to have traveled west on Bevier Street and then south on Chenango Street.

The vehicle reportedly was driven on a sidewalk in an area closed to traffic due to repairs being made to an Interstate 81 bridge.

Most of the guns stolen in the heist are said to have been scattered in the area of Cheri Lindsey Park and behind the Binghamton Plaza.

Police later took two suspects into custody at a home on Binghamton's West Side.

It's not known if investigators are seeking other possible suspects. State police and Binghamton police would not comment on the case.

No arrests have been made in connection with the April 21 killing of Aliza Spencer.
