Authorities are investigating a crash east of Windsor on Route 17 early this morning that claimed one life.

Broome County Emergency Services officials say a Jeep and a tractor trailer collided on Route 17 east one mile east of the Damascus exit at around 1:30 this morning.

Sheriff’s officials say the Jeep was reported to be disabled and minutes later, another call reported that a tractor trailer hit the Jeep that was stopped in the right lane.

The Jeep went over an embankment and the tractor trailer also went over the embankment a short distance further down the highway.

The driver of the Jeep died at the scene while the driver of the tractor trailer was taken to the hospital with head injuries.

Traffic was being diverted at Exit 79 to Old Route 17 while the scene was being investigated and cleared.

The names of those involved in the crash are not available.
