6 P.M. UPDATE:

An Applebee's franchisee is outlining what it did immediately after finding out that a second employee at one of it's Broome County locations came down with coronavirus.

Stephanie Griffin, vice president of marketing and public relations at T. L. Cannon, an Applebee’s franchisee, said in statement in part:

“Upon learning of a positive COVID-19 diagnosis from a team member who last worked July 18 at our Front Street, Binghamton restaurant and is self-quarantining, we immediately contacted the Broome County Health Department. All team members were notified and, out of an abundance of caution and under guidance from the Health Department, the restaurant was closed to allow an outside sanitation specialist to thoroughly disinfect the entire restaurant before opening the following day."

Griffin also added that all team members are temperature-checked every day at the beginning of each shift, with safety being the top priority. Additionally, Griffin notes that face masks are used by all staff, thorough cleanings are carried out in the restaurants each day, and bar areas are organized with social distancing in mind.

Griffin stated that T.L. Cannon is proud to serve the Binghamton area for the past 23 years and thanks all customers for their patronage.

Officials say an employee at the Applebee's has come back with a positive test result for the virus that causes COVID-19.

Officials say the worker was at the restaurant near SUNY Broome Community College July 17 between 12:15 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. and July 18 between 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Anyone who was also at the restaurant during those times is asked to self-quarantine until August 1 and monitor for symptoms such as cough, fever and shortness of breath.

The health department says Applebee's at that location has been closed for a thorough cleaning and disinfecting.

Another person at the restaurant on July 5th had tested positive for the coronavirus, prompting and advisory and call for people who had visited the eatery to self-quarantine for two weeks.  That quarantine period ended July 19.

Free testing is available from New York State by appointment at a drive-through site at Binghamton University.  Call 1-888-364-3065.
