Johnson City Police say a second arrest has been made in connection with a shooting incident September 16 near the Goodwill Theatre on Willow Street in which a woman was wounded.

September 19, 18 year old Xavier Melendez of Binghamton was arrested and charged with felony criminal possession of a weapon, felony tampering with evidence and misdemeanor criminal possession of a controlled substance.

Investigators say they believe Melendez was the intended target of the shooting Sunday afternoon.  Police say they found he unlawfully possessed a loaded firearm.  During his arrest, authorities say they found him in possession of an amount of cocaine which they say he discarded as officers approached.

Shortly after the 3:30 p.m. shooting, a 16 year old Binghamton boy was arrested and a semi-automatic handgun was recovered.  The boy, whose name has not been released, is charged with attempted murder, criminal use of a firearm and criminal possession of a weapon

The woman, who was shot while seated in a parked sport utility vehicle was treated at Wilson Hospital for a gunshot wound to the chest and released.

The investigation is continuing.
