An out-of-town driver probably will remember Binghamton after the tractor-trailer he was driving smashed into a downtown railroad bridge.

The trucker was five blocks away from the Chenango Street Family Dollar store when the too-tall trailer struck the Norfolk Southern Railway underpass on State Street. It happened shortly before 11 a.m. Monday.

A section of the metal roof of the trailer was peeled away by impact. The driver was able to slowly back the rig away from the underpass with the assistance of Binghamton police.

There were no injuries in the incident and it appeared nothing in the trailer was damaged.

The tractor unit indicated the truck was operated by J.B. Hunt

A sign posted on the bridge indicates a clearance height of 12 feet, one inch.
