The counting is underway again in the 22nd U.S. Congressional race in New York.

Elections officials in three of the eight counties, Herkimer, Madison and Oswego, began the partial recount December 14 to try to fix mistakes made during the canvassing the paper ballots in the tight contest between Democrat incumbent Anthony Brindisi and former Congresswoman Claudia Tenney, where the Republican is only 12 votes ahead in her attempt to regain the Congress seat Brindisi won by another narrow vote two years ago.

Broome and Tioga Counties begin reviewing the absentee and affidavit ballots December 15 while Chenango, Oneida and Cortland counties get to work December 16.

The reviews are being done in the presence of representatives of both campaigns and are expected to last through the end of the week.

Problems with the initial count included sticky notes affixed to ballots called into question that fell off before arriving in State Supreme Court and the discovery twice of misplaced ballots in Chenango County.
